New York style in the heart of Liverpool
Aloft Hotel Liverpool
By Camille Allcroft

The gothic stone exterior of Aloft Hotel Liverpool is immediately striking, the hotel is located on the corner of North John Street, making it the ideal central location for shopping and sightseeing with Liverpool One close at hand. As you walk in to the lobby, the impression of grandeur continues with lofty ceilings and impressive light fixtures reminiscent of continental hotels. I was warmly welcomed by the reception team and after a swift check in process I took the lift up to the 6th floor, eager to settle in to my room.

The rooms at Aloft are modelled on a loft style concept and my first impression was one of openness and contemporary, clean lines. The hotel has 116 rooms designed with the traveller in mind, with comfortable platform beds and plenty of added features to make your stay enjoyable.

A king sized bed dominated the space and there was plenty of light flooding in from the large window which revealed a sweeping panorama of the city including many landmarks. A 42-inch flat screen television and free Wi-Fi is provided in all of the rooms, meaning that entertainment and work are equally well catered for and there is a gym within the hotel to keep up with your fitness too.

The room was equipped with a desk area overlooking the window, a refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and a speaker unit to listen to your music on. The bathroom area was equally well thought out, with an appealing walk-in shower, sink and vanity area with mirror. There were Bliss Spa products provided, including body lotion, body wash and 2in1 shampoo and conditioner. I think it shows a real attention to detail when a hotel provides these, as it is so easy to forget the essentials when travelling. The wardrobe had clothes hangers and shelves and an iron and ironing board were also provided which I found so useful. Dining at the hotel is something I would recommend, as the in house restaurant NYL is located downstairs, with a stylish aesthetic including comfortable booths and menus inspired by New York and European influences. I had one of the best risottos I have ever eaten at NYL and the desserts were equally delightful. You can also dine at NYL within the comfort of your room, as the room service menu carries an appealing selection of sandwiches served with shoestring fries (served 10am-6pm), small plates, steaks, seafood, burgers, pasta and desserts as well as roast of the day available on Sunday. This well-rounded room service menu would be just the thing after a long day, and I can imagine having a room service Sunday roast would be the ultimate indulgence! Downstairs in the lobby there is also a Re:fuel area, with a 24 hour ‘grab and go’ snack station where you can purchase food and drinks to take back to your room and the WXYZ bar serves a great cocktail list, plus you can have a game of pool in the lounge area adjacent to the bar.

The facilities on offer at Aloft make it the ideal base for either business or leisure travel and there are computers and printers in the lobby, to catch up on some work. Starbucks coffee is served at the WXYZ bar and you can settle on the comfortable seats there to unwind.

Outside the hotel you do not have to venture far for fun, as the many restaurants and bars of Castle Street are close by as well as the shopping at Liverpool One and there is a vast selection of museums and art galleries in the city. I slept well in the comfortable bed and awoke feeling refreshed in time to go down for breakfast. Served in the NYL restaurant, the buffet style self-service breakfast offered something for everybody including fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, juice, yoghurt, cold meats and cheese. For those preferring a cooked breakfast, items such as bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, baked beans, tomatoes and hash browns were on hand. For a hotel offering sophisticated accommodation and excellent facilities in the heart of the city, Aloft Liverpool has got it all.
